Affiliate marketing is in booming stage, people are establishing new professional website to promote their favorite affiliate program so that they can earn affiliate commission. A professional and clean website is definitely good for promoting affiliate products, but without good and relevant content inside the website, it is very difficult to generate affiliate sales.

Your articles in your website should be in certain qualities that would utilize online resources best, and, of course, turn visitors into affiliate sales. Here are the four types of articles your affiliate marketing site should have if you want to convert your visitors into affiliate commission.

Reviews
People need supporting information when they are interested to buy a product. But they don’t like to read sales pitch because they don’t believe it.

What they want is the real information about the product such as the pros and cons of the product, how it can help them and the opinion of people who have really used the product. So give them what they want. Provide honest and sincere information in the form of reviews. Tell them frankly the pros and cons; and the usefulness of the product. Place your affiliate links in the review to let your visitors check out the product.

As you will be writing true reviews about your affiliate products, so you need to choose only quality affiliate products to promote on your website.

Benefits
The successful Internet marketers always tell people to highlight the benefits instead of features of the product when selling online. What they say is right. So, besides publishing review, you can also write articles focusing on the benefits of your affiliate product. When the prospects become interested to a product, they should have known the features of the product and probably want to know the benefits of the product. So, tell them the benefits they will gain if they buy. Also, there will be other competition in the market. The other similar products may be good, or even better, features than the one you’re marketing. But if you can provide your target buyers with more benefits than the competitors do, the more likely will they purchase from you.

Product Comparison
If you are selling quality affiliate product and confident that the product is better than many other competitors product, then you may do product comparisons. But make sure you do it in the fairest way possible. Don’t highlight just all the drawbacks of the competition while highlighting your own product’s benefits. Tell the visitor the benefits of your competitors product, then compare in such a way that your product comes out on top.

News Briefs
Keep your affiliate marketing site updated with news briefs. You can include promos, developments, and previously unknown information about the product (such as “studies show that this product (benefits of the product)” or “Top Marketing groups regard this product as one of the most revolutionary products of the 21st century”). Keep your news briefs concise—don’t exaggerate it. If you are able to obtain new information about your product consistent, you may create a news highlight section on your affiliate marketing and post your updated news there.

These are the types of articles you should often publish on your website. You don’t have to focus on only a single topic every time; your article may sometimes be in combination of two to three topics such as articles that talk about both the benefits and product comparison at the same time.

Test what types of content are working well for your affiliate marketing program, or product then stick with the articles that work best and you can be on your way to earn a steady affiliate commission

Today, affiliate marketing programs is seen as one of the most important methods by online companies and merchants to market their products and services because implementing an affiliate program doesn’t cost much money and it helps generate a consistent stream of online profit.

On the other hand, the affiliates see affiliate marketing as a feasible and low cost method to make online online by promoting other people products using a website or without a website (using Google AdWords PPC advertising program).

There are many affiliate programs on the Internet and not all of them are similar. The most basic affiliate programs fall into 3 categories:

Pay Per Performance

Pay Per click

Residual Income Affiliate Marketing Programs

Pay Per Performance
Pay per performance (PPP) affiliate programs are what most companies and online merchants likes to use. The companies only need to pay when an affiliate referral translates into an action. The action can be a purchase or a lead. The affiliates will spend their own money to promote the affiliated company’s products, This save a lot of money for the company. PPP affiliate programs can be futher classified into 2 sub-categories:

Pay Per Sale (PPS) The title says it all. The company only pays the affiliate when a visitor referred by the affiliate make a purchase.

Pay Per Lead (PPL) PPL is a little different to PPS. PPL affiliate programs usually used by finance and insurance companies. In this type of affiliate marketing, the affiliate will be paid a fixed commission whenever a visitor referred by him/her to the merchant’s website requested a quote or filled up an online application form.

Pay Per Click (PPC) Affiliate Programs
PPC affiliate programs are most popular. You should have heard them a lot. PPC programs are probably the easiest way for web publishers to make money from their websites and blogs. The affiliate gets paid a certain amount ($0.05 to $0.50 usually) whenever a visitor click a banner or text ad displaying on the affiliate’s website. PPC typically used by contextual advertising companies like Google AdSense, Yahoo Publisher Networks and much more.

Residual Income Affiliate Marketing Programs
In this type of programs, the affiliate not only compensated for every customer referred to the merchant’s website, the affiliate is also paid whenever the referred customer returns to the site and buy another product.

The different types of affiliate marketing programs would deffinitely work differently for merchants and affiliates, and each would have their own advantages and drawbacks. To find out which types of programs work best for you, you’ll have to know which one of them suit your need and characteristic most. And then start testing them.

Affiliates make money by referring customers to their merchants. There are many companies and webmasters offer affiliate programs to promote their online sales. When you sign up for an affiliate program, you will be given an affiliate link with an unique affiliate ID which will be used to market the product. When someone makes a purchase through your affiliate link, you make money (earn affiliate commission). Below are the steps to starting an affiliate marketing business:

Step 1 – Join an Affiliate Program
Clickbank.com is one of the best places to find an affiliate program that interests you as there are a ton of sellers looking for people to promote their e-books and info products. Before you join any affiliate programs, do a little research. Find out which products are most popular, the conversion rate of the products and visit the sellers’ websites to see whether their sales letters are convinced enough to generate sales. A conversion rate of 5% is reasonably good. This means that for every 100 visitors to the website, 5 visitors will buy.

Step 2 – Promote an affiliate program through a website
You need to have a website to promote your affiliate programs. Creating a website isn’t difficult nowadays. You can use an easy website builder to create a website with little or no technical knowledge. To learn more about how to set up a site with website builder, you can go to Google and enter the search term ‘website builder’ to find a site builder that is right for you.

Step 3 – Decide the Content on Your Website
As you are promoting e-books, you can write a review on each e-book with an affiliate link to the sales website of each e-book. If you do not wish to write reviews, you can create a product recommendation list on your website (e.g., ‘Top 5 SEO e-books,’ ‘Top 3 MP3 music download,’ etc.).

Step 4 – Drive Targeted traffic/visitors to Your Website
To earn affiliate commission you need to drive targeted traffic to your website. The more traffic your website gets, the more likely you’ll generate more sales. There are several ways to drive targeted traffic to your site in short period of time (2 to 5 days). Here’s how……

Pay-per-click (PPC) Advertising
You can get a lot of targeted traffic using PPC advertising. The two most popular and effective PPC advertising programs are Google Adwords and Yahoo Search Marketing. So how PPC advertising program works? PPC advertising programs allow you to bid for top rankings on the keywords of your choice. When someone enters a search term matches your keyword in the PPC search engine and press the search button, your contextual ad will appear on the sidebar of the search result page. If the visitor clicks through your ad to your website, you’ll be charged base on your bid amount. To learn more about PPC advertising, please click here.

Article Marketing
Writing an article related to your affiliate products with a link to your website in the article’s resource box and submitting it to many article directories can bring some free targeted traffic to your site. To get more and continuous targeted traffic, you need to write more articles. Try to publish a new article every week. Doing this for a year can drive truckload of free traffic to your website.

Post Messages on Forums
Another way to get free traffic is by posting messages on community forums with a link to your site on the signature of each message posted by you. Here’s a technique I learned from an affiliate marketer.

1) Run a search on Google to find out forums and message boards that are related to your affiliate products and try to join as many forums as you can.

2) Make sure that each one of your forums profile is edited to include your website link within the signature option.

3) Spend a few hours navigating the pages of the forums. You can ask questions and post informative and helpful replies to other peoples’ questions or messages to build your status. The more people trust you, the more likely they will click your link.

High Yield Investment Program (HYIP) is a investment program that anyone can join online and deposit fund, in return the member will earn high interest in short period of time. There are tons of HYIPs on the Internet and most of them are closely monitored by HYIP rating sites and HYIP forums.

HYIPs have different investment plans. The interest and return offered by HYIPs usually anyway between 0.3% to 100% daily, weekly or monthly. You can make fast and easy money investing HYIPs. However investing in HYIPs involve high degree of risks. HYIPs generally stay online anywhere between 1 day to 1.5 years so if the HYIP you invested closes down, you may lose all or part of your initial capital. One strategy you can use to minimize the risk is diversify your investment into several HYIPs equally and don’t leave any interest in your investment accounts for compounding, withdraw them to your e-gold account or other e-currency accounts immediately. HYIPs rank high on rating and monitor sites tend to last longer than those at lower rank and new HYIPs.

You can find HYIPs from those HYIP rating and monitor sites. HYIPinvestment.com is one of the biggest HYIP rating and monitor sites. They provide a long list of HYIPs with latest comments, rating and payment status on each HYIP. If you plan to join HYIPs, invest only the amount you afford to lose because your principle and profit aren’t guaranteed. Also you will need an e-gold a/c to deposit fund and receive interest & return. Below are steps that can help you get started to invest in HYIP:

Step 1
Open an e-gold a/c at http://www.e-gold.com. You will find detailed instructions on how to fund your e-gold a/c from e-gold.com.

Step 2
Visit HYIPinvestment.com and find the HYIPs that interest you. Read the comments and ratings of each HYIP to make sure they are paying to members before you deposit fund to the HYIPs programs you selected. To lower your risk you must diversify your investments into several HYIPs (you may start off with HYIPs).

Step 3
Most HYIPs pay daily. So you need to login to your HYIPs a/c daily to withdraw interests to your e-gold a/c. If a HYIP’s website down, there could be 2 possiblility:
1) They are experiencing technical, IT problems or security issues which wil be back online later usually.
2) They have closed down and you lose money or you still earn some money overall.

Again high return means high risk. So only invest the amount you afford to lose

Creating a website to generate income online is one of the most common methods these days. You can earn money from a website by:

a) Marketing your own merchandises/products and services.
b) Joining affiliate programs to promoting other companies products or merchandises.
c) Participating in Google AdSense Publisher Program to start generating AdSense commission from your website.

Option (a) & (b) require a lot of time, effort and advanced Internet marketing knowledge before you start generate profit from your site. The third choice is much simple and faster to profit online with a website. To launch an AdSense campaign you must first sign up to become a publisher of Google AdSense program. You are going to submit your website for review when applying an AdSense account.

The first step of building a website is deciding the content of your website, your content can be related to any subjects as long as they comply with AdSense program policies. Google AdSense policies can be found at https://www.google.com/adsense/policies. Your interest, hobby, past experience and area of expertise may help you decide what topic or subject you are going to write. You can provide helpful content like advice, educational articles and so on to others on your website if you are an expert at something. If you like to travel you may write about the places and countries you have visited and share your traveling experience and tips in your website.

There are plenty of online companies providing web design service but it is expensive using the service of a web design company. Hiring a web designer to build a website via freelance marketplace like guru.com is much cheaper than using a company. However this is still not the most effective way to cut your cost to minimum. The cheapest way to create a website is by using a free web development tool or software. There are getting more and more free web development tools on the Internet and I recommend Bluevoda website builder. You can download Bluevoda website Builder at http://www.bluevoda.com. Bluevoda allows user to create websites without technical knowledge. Users can create almost any kinds of website with little limitation. Create websites using Bluevoda is free. You only pay for the domain name and website hosting.

After you finish designing your website, it is time to publish it on Internet and promote your website to earn AdSense revenue. There are a number of ways to promote your website to bring traffic (visitors) to your site.

Pay-per-click (PPC) Advertising
Pay-per-click (PPC) advertising companies let you advertise your website on search engines using keywords-bidding system. When a visitor enters a keyword you bid on in search engines to find something, the visitor will see your ad and if the visitor clicks your ad, you will be charged based on the amount you bid. The two most common PPC advertising programs are Google Adwords and Yahoo Search Marketing but they are quite expensive to advertise with due to tough competition in the keywords-bidding system. You might encounter the problem of your PPC cost higher than your AdSense revenue and lead to a loss. Luckily, there are low cost alternatives such as Bidvertiser.com, searchfeed.com, Bidclix.com and so on. These PPC companies allow you to drive instant targeted visitors to your site with less than $0.15 per visitor.

Provide free content
Creating articles and sending them to content websites like online article directories is a no cost way to gain further exposure for your website. You will promote your website and get traffic by writing about yourself and your website with a live link points to your website in the author’s bio of each article published on content websites.

RSS advertising
RSS advertising is another free method to increase your website’s traffic. There are people reading information and news online using RSS readers or news aggregators. This has created another opportunities for webmasters to boost the websites traffic. By creating your own RSS file and submitting it to search engines and RSS directories, the links to the content in your website will appear in front of those who read information using news aggregators and as a result driving free visitors to your website. Need further explanations? You can learn more about RSS at http://searchenginewatch.com/showPage.html?page=2175271

Carsurvey.org is a car review website published by CSDO Media Limited. Initially inspired by some of the earliest experiments in user-generated reviews, the site now hosts almost 100,000 English-language car reviews submitted by visitors from across the globe.

From 1997 to 2000, founder Steven Jackson ran the site as a hobby. However, the growing hosting costs became significant, so Steven opted to run ads to cover them. He joined the AdSense program and was impressed with the initial results, which were further improved by carefully optimising the location, colour and size of the ads. By 2005, the time demands of running a popular website while holding down a day job were no longer sustainable. The steady revenue from AdSense was a major factor in Steven’s decision to leave his old career and devote himself full-time to running Carsurvey.org.

AdSense offered Steven many advantages. Its global reach matched Carsurvey.org’s diverse user base, and the fact that it separated the selling of ad space from the management of the site was very important to maintaining the sites’ independence and credibility. Steven says, “AdSense allows me to focus on running Carsurvey.org for visitors. As long as Carsurvey.org provides a useful service, AdSense helps pay the bills.”

Ad placements

As a regular reader of Inside AdSense, Steven was quick to pick up on improvements to the custom channel feature, which allows advertisers to target specific site areas using ad placements. He updated his AdSense HTML code to highlight his site via ad placements and focused on the most important pages and locations within Carsurvey.org. This made the site more appealing to advertisers, as they could begin to target specific page locations and sections. In addition, it gave more prominence to Carsurvey.org in the AdWords site tool, as you can see in the image below.

Medium rectangles

In addition to implementing the ad placements, Steven also tried another AdSense optimisation tip and added more image-enabled 300×250 medium rectangle units to his site. Though initially skeptical, as using those units would mean both changing the page layout for all of Carsurvey.org and displaying fewer ads per page, Steven decided to give the change a try.

Accelerating revenue

The improvements were gradual at first, but soon Steven’s revenue climbed as advertisers began targeting specific ad placements on Carsurvey.org, namely the new 300×250 units in prime locations. Within a few months, Steven saw his placement targeting revenue grow up to six times its previous level; it now represents 60-80% of his overall earnings.

“I can definitely recommend experimenting with the ad placements and image enabled ads, especially in the 300×250 and skyscraper formats recommended by Google. I thought Carsurvey.org was pretty well optimised, but this just shows that experimenting with AdSense ad placements and testing out new features can really pay off,” says Steven.

That’s a significant increase over last year – more than 20%. There has never been a better time to be on the receiving end of that spending pattern, and the market keeps improving.

Many people start an e-commerce site as their primary business. If you have a brick and mortar store where you sell products or simply operate a business from home, starting an e-commerce site can provide an additional sales channel for you.

Creating a Web site for the purpose of selling products or services online entails a large amount of research and planning. When you start an online business, forgetting one simple step can make the difference between success and failure.

Here are 8 steps to help you get started:

1. Create a business and marketing plan. Schedule a time to meet with your business partners or team members. Brainstorm together and lay out all of your plans in one document. This plan should incorporate all startup and recurring costs. Set up an overall expense budget and sales forecast.

2. Choose a good Web site address (domain name) to help customers find you. You will need to select a domain name for the site that accurately represents what you are selling and helps brand your business. However, did you consider that the search engines will also be using your domain name as a symbol of what you sell? Give some thought to an appropriate URL and go shopping for one.

3. Select the right e-commerce software with a shopping cart. In order to sell products on your Web site, you have a few options. You can hire someone to develop custom online storefront functionality. However, most small businesses who are looking for more cost effective solutions purchase e-commerce Web site hosting software. This allows your customers to select products from your Web site, put them into the shopping cart on your site, and then checkout using their choice of various payment methods.

4. Apply for a business account (merchant account) for processing credit cards. It is critical to give your customers multiple payment options on your Web site. Most customers are accustomed to paying for goods and services online using their credit card. In order to accept credit cards as payment for your products, you must apply for what is called a merchant account. If you do not accept credit cards on your Web site, you are doing a great disservice to your site’s potential for success, so make sure you apply.

5. Secure your site to let customers know it is safe to do business with you. As an online merchant, security is a key consideration for you. If you are going to accept consumer financial information such as credit card payments, you are responsible for ensuring that data is protected and secure and that you meet credit card company security requirements.

6. Design your site to be user-friendly. Once you have all of the products uploaded to the Web site and you can accept credit cards it’s time to work on improving the site’s appearance before you go live with your new online storefront.

7. Test the site. You only have one chance to make a first impression with each visitor, so be sure that you test and tweak your site before going live with it. Plan at least a few days or weeks to do this. Make sure everything is working properly or all of your efforts can be for naught.

You might try inviting a few friends to help you test the site. Ask them to visit your Web site while you watch their browsing behavior. Try not to say anything as they click around. Give them fifteen minutes, and then ask them about their experience.

8. Promote your site online. Promoting your site on the Web can be expensive and complex, but taking advantage of search engine behavior to drive targeted traffic to your site can result in a favorable long-term return on your up-front investment, whether that investment is your time or money.

Using these tips, you can quickly and easily start selling products online. It may seem a bit daunting at first, but is actually quite simple. There are many vendors who can help fulfill the needs laid out in each action step. Simply visit Google and search for a place to buy a domain name (eg. GoDaddy.com), an e-commerce platform, and so on. Follow these steps and in no time at all you’ll be up and running.

It is my pleasure to publish the first article in my “Making Money Online – As Simple As 1-2-3″ series. Since the article is related to time management/productivity, it is only natural that I don’t waste any time and get straight to the point:

Setting goals

1) Write a personal mission statement. Be sure to clearly identify the roles you have in life such as husband/wife, entrepreneur/employee or father/mother.

2) Set long-term goals. Picture your life 10 years from now. How would you like it to be? How about 20 or 30 years from now? Always keep your long-term goals in mind and see if the day-to-day activities you are involved with are actually in line with such goals.

3) Set short-term goals. What would you like to accomplish by next week? What projects would you like to complete this month? When setting short-term goals you need to make sure that you always see the big picture and that they will be of help towards achieving your long-term goals.

4) Don’t be afraid of failure. Treat it as a natural part of success. You cannot achieve success without failing and learning from your mistakes. Always remember that failing is far better than being passive and not trying anything in the first place.

5) Don’t get discouraged if a certain goal does not seem within reach. Goals, especially long-term ones, cannot be achieved overnight.

6) Break big goals into smaller ones. If a goal seems too complex to be handled as a whole, break it into smaller parts.

7) Share your goals with the people you trust and respect. The support which they can provide will definitely motivate you towards achieving those goals.

8.) Don’t concentrate on just one single goal and neglect other aspects of your life.

9) Realize that you can never predict the future and that obstacles can always appear. Make sure that, when setting goals, you take the possibility of encountering obstacles into consideration.

10) Understand that you can change as a person and that goals are flexible as well. If you feel the need to change something regarding your goals, there is nothing wrong a few adjustments here and there.

Taking care of your health – the building blocks of productivity

11) Eliminate coffee from your life, quit smoking and generally get rid of anything addictive.

12) Pay more attention to what you are eating. You cannot expect to feel great and full of energy if you intoxicate your body with unhealthy food.

13) Don’t neglect sleep. Sleeping is not a waste of time and you should generally try and get 7-8 hours of sleep each day.

14) Try to make a habit out of waking up each day at the same time, including weekends.

15) Spend less time watching TV. That doesn’t mean that you should stop watching TV altogether, you should simply be more selective when choosing the TV programs which you spend valuable time watching.

16) Relax every now and then. Take your family on a picnic or on a trip every once in a while, anything which gets you out of the house.

17) Start working out and consider a day spent without exercising for at least a couple of minutes a wasted one.

18) Walk to the office every now and day and leave the car at home.

19) When it comes to alcohol, don’t go over-board.

20) Don’t let stress get the best of you.

21) Visit your doctor for a medical check-up on a regular basis.

22) Help others. It will help you contribute to society and respect yourself more.

Saying no

23) Can you delegate a certain task? Then by all means, do so and don’t waste time on it.

24) Pay less attention to the tasks which do not bring you closer to your long-term goals.

25) Just say no if a task is not worth the time you would have to spend on it.

26) Treat time as your most prized asset and be very selective when it comes to choosing the activities you spend time on.

27) Hire a secretary if you run a business and need some help with keeping things organized.

28) Don’t organize meetings unless they are absolutely necessary. Always think twice and see if your time is not better spent doing something else.

29) If you do not trust a potential business partner simply say no as the both of you would only end up wasting time as a result of such a partnership.

30) Don’t do business with another person unless you are both satisfied with the arrangement and the business plan. Both of you have to be confident in your project if you want to stand a chance at success.

Staying focused

31) Only start projects you are confident that you can finish. Don’t start a million things only to see that they do not materialize.

32) Always realize that completing a project will require time and patience on your part.

33) Try to always work on projects you are passionate about as it is easier to stay focused in such situations.

34) Start every day by reading your mission statement. It will help you always remember the big picture.

35) Make sure that the business plan you put together is a solid one. While you may feel excited about a certain project at the beginning, that excitement will disappear. A business plan and your ability to stick with it can make or break any project.

36) Don’t panic if things do not turn out exactly as planned. Your project may not always turn out exactly as planned but there is nothing wrong with that.

37) Be flexible. If there is something which needs to be changed with a certain project of yours then by all means, make the changes. Just because you have originally planned something doesn’t mean that there is no room for improvement.

38) Don’t give up if things start going wrong and work towards finding solutions instead.

39) Always turn to your family for support. If the ones you love support you and trust your decision, then you know that you will find a way to solve the problems you come across.

40) Celebrate small victories. Once you reach certain short-term goals with your project, celebrate it. This way, you will build up enthusiasm and be motivated to keep working towards your long-term goals with that project.

Organizing the office

41) Place your desk in such a way as to help you not become distracted.

42) Make sure you place your phone where you can always have it within reach.

43) Next to the phone, always have pens and paper available in case you want to take notes.

44) Use all sorts of containers where you will place pens, paper and other office supplies.

45) Keep business cards close by in case you need to contact a person who has provided one for a certain task or with certain questions.

46) Make sure that the colors are pleasant to the eye. After all, you want to work in a pleasant environment in order to maximize your potential.

47) Always have a wastepaper bin in your office and throw away everything which is of no use to you. The last thing you need is an office filled with useless junk.

48) Have the office cleaned on a regular basis. You can either do it yourself or hire another person for the job.

Organizing your desk

49) Only store items on your desk if you need them for your current project.

50) Place the office supplies you use more often so that they always within reach.

51) The computer screen should be placed, based on your preferences, at a distance which ensures optimal visibility while not putting a strain on the eye.

52) Make sure you have a separate drawer for personal documents and a separate one for documents related to the company you run or to the company where you work.

53) Throw away every object as soon as you do not need it anymore. You want as much free storage space as possible.

54) At the end of each working day, clean your desk and make plans for the next day.

Improving your concentration

55) Only work on one thing at a time. While you can multitask by listening to an audio material while jogging, for example, you should avoid multitasking when working on projects which require concentration.

56) Don’t check your e-mail account as soon as you arrive at the office. It will only make concentrating harder for you. There will be plenty of time to check your e-mails after you have taken care of the important tasks.

57) Deal with the most unpleasant important task first. If you don’t then it will always be on your mind while you are performing other tasks and you will end up having a hard time concentrating.

58) Set clear objectives. Know exactly what you need to accomplish and what kind of a deadline you have.

59) Take a break every now and then and remember that you are not a robot.

60) Having pleasant background music at an acceptable volume helps some people concentrate.

61) If you are easily distracted by any kind of sound, then make sure that you turn anything that can produce noise off.

62) Divide large tasks into smaller one. Maintaining your concentration for a long time is very hard and that is why you can easily divide a large task into smaller ones. This way, you can either take small breaks after having completed each small task or you can even work for more than one day on the large task more easily if it is necessary.

63) Don’t be interrupted by others. Tell your co-workers or employees to not disturb you unless it is absolutely necessary.

Eliminating distractions

64) Turn off any instant messenger software you are currently using. The last thing you need is to be interrupted while you are in the middle of a breakthrough.

65) Turn off e-mail notifications.

66) Close the door and windows if you can be distracted by traffic sounds, for example.

67) Don’t use the internet. It is very easy to get carried away and waste time on the internet so that you have to be very careful and not let the internet temptation get the best of you.

68) Unplug your phone unless you are expecting news and do not want to miss such calls. If something is that important, then they can always call back at a later point.

69) Have your secretary not accept calls or meetings. Let her take a message and only let you know about the call right away if it is something she considers really important.

70) Turn off all automatic software updates.

Avoiding procrastination

71) If there is an important task you need to take care of, do it now and not tomorrow.

72) If you have an unpleasant task on your hands you can either take care of it right away if it is important or dismiss it if it is not.

73) Don’t take breaks which are too long and don’t procrastinate getting back to work.

74) Set clear time limits and stick to them. If something needs to be taken care of at 12:00 pm, then take care of it at 12:00 pm and not a minute later.

75) When planning, always set time aside for unexpected situations since you do not want to postpone other tasks in such cases.

76) Don’t go over-board with planning. All of the planning in the world will be useless if you are not willing to act. Don’t use planning as an excuse for procrastination.

77) Try to mostly start projects you enjoy working on. If you are dealing with an unpleasant project, then you will most likely feel the need to procrastinate.

78) Don’t try to come up with excuses. Instead, use that time by working on the tasks you would be creating excuses for.

79) Reward yourself for managing to overcome procrastination. If you have completed a task you had originally wanted to postpone then you definitely deserve a reward.

Motivating yourself

80) Set a goal you feel excited about and would love to work on.

81) Visualize the exact outcome you would like and imagine how you would feel after achieving your goal.

82) Set realistic expectations. If you set expectations which cannot be met, you will end up losing motivation down the road.

83) Don’t focus on tasks other say that you “should” do, focus on the ones you “want” to do instead.

Organizing your time

84) Understand that your time is limited and that you have to make the most out of it.

85) Prioritize. You will have a lot of tasks you can choose from each day but not all of them are equally important. Focus on the ones which are worth it and don’t waste your time on the ones which are not.

86) Efficiently deal with routine tasks. There are a few tasks which people need to take care of on a daily basis. These tasks can end up causing you to waste a lot of time if not optimized.

87) Never waste time when waiting. There are a lot of occasions where you will have to wait for something or someone. Find something useful you can do while waiting and don’t just sit there and waste time.

88) Find out at what point during the day you are able to work better. Some people seem to work better in the morning while others do not. Locate the time of day when you are able to work better and organize your schedule accordingly.

89) Put together a to-do list containing the tasks which need to be taken care of each day.

90) Spend a little extra time, if that is what it takes in order to do the job right. Remember that getting things done is not enough and that you need to get them done right.

91) Don’t spend too much time, however, on all sorts of insignificant details. Being a perfectionist can cause you to waste a lot of time by dealing with small details which aren’t actually all that important.

92) Think about how you are spending time each day for a moment. Locate the tasks which cause you to waste time and eliminate them from your daily routine.

93) Don’t think about the things you didn’t do. The door has closed and there is nothing you can do about it. Instead, think about the things you can do from now on.

94) Set time aside for relaxation and pleasant activities. After all, there is no harm in relaxing and forgetting about your day-to-day activities every once in a while.

95) Take courses. If you are given the opportunity to take part in a course and if the person is a respected authority worth learning form, then go for it.

Improving yourself

96) Understand that self improvement can help you save time. After all, if you become better in certain areas of your life, you can handle tasks related to those areas faster as well as better.

97) Start your day right. A lot of people neglect this aspect by skipping breakfast for example. Don’t make such a mistake and realize that you will have far more to lose than to gain from such habits.

98) Be optimistic. If you don’t believe in yourself then you cannot expect to succeed.

99) Simply smile and be a pleasant person to talk to.

100) Forgive other people and realize that human beings are not perfect. Everyone makes mistakes. You have to forgive if you expect to be forgiven.

101) Send out birthday cards and be considerate. People appreciate such small and seemingly insignificant gestures.

102) Have an open mind. Don’t be afraid of change and treat it as a natural part of your existence.

103) Listen to what others have to say about you. Always accept different opinions as you never know when you can realize that there are indeed certain aspects you need to change about your behavior.

104) Keep commitments. If you promise to arrive for a meeting at a certain hour, make sure you live up to your promise.

105) Make self-improvement a daily goal. Don’t let one day go by without learning something new and improving yourself.

106) Steer clear from people who do not share your values and principles. It is always best to have people with similar interests as friends.

107) Understand that you are only human, that you sometimes make mistakes and have limits.

Solving problems

108) Admit that there is a problem. The first step towards solving a problem is admitting that you are facing a problem in the first place. Don’t live in denial.

109) Realize that you are the one at fault for your problems. It’s not your family members, employees or boss, it’s you.

110) Take responsibility for your actions. You are responsible for creating the problem and you should obviously be responsible for solving it.

111) See the light at the end of the tunnel. Always be on the lookout for possible solutions.

112) Know when to ask for help. There will be cases when you cannot solve certain problems yourself.

113) Prevent future problems. After you have solved a problem, learn from your mistake and prevent similar situations from happening in the future.

114) Help others solve their problems as well. Offer your help and don’t wait for them to ask.

115) Don’t always look for solutions which do not require work on your part. The easy way out is usually not the best one.

116) Don’t expect to solve your problems overnight. Analyze them, be patient and the results will come.

117) Deal with the cause and don’t just treat the effects. Superficial quick-fixes will only temporarily solve your problems, going to the source of those problem, even if it will not be easy, is the only effective approach.

118) Try to always see things clearly. Even if a problem seems impossible to solve, take a moment, see things in perspective and you will find the best way to deal with it.

119) Don’t be afraid to solve problems. Living in denial is very easy but it only creates a false sense of comfort and security. If you are interested in true happiness you will just have to act.

Are you ready to become more productive?

120) Understand that increasing productivity is a journey and not a destination. There will always be room for improvement.

121) Remember that you have to be productive at the right things. If you are heading towards the wrong goal then you will only be digging yourself into a deep hole faster by becoming more productive. Before wanting to increase your productivity make sure that you are reaching for the right goals.

122) Realize that becoming more productive is not only about managing your time. If you do not look after your health, then you can expect your future productivity to become lower and lower. Health and personality play a much more important role in becoming more productive than meets the eye.

123) Always seek help in becoming more productive. You can pay for help (courses and seminars), ask for help (from friends and family members) or search for help online.

If you have found this post useful, please digg/stumble/etc. it so that it can be shared with others. If you are a webmaster then spreading the word by linking to this article (and there will be many more to come) would be appreciated. It’s posts like this one which add value to the Web and they are definitely worth sharing with others.

Best wishes,

There are several lists with “ways to make money with a website” on the Internet, but none of them seem to be complete. That is why I decided to create this one. If you know a method that is not listed below, just let us know and we’ll update it.

Notice that ways to make money with a website are different from ways to make more money from it. Methods to increase your traffic or click-through rate will help you make more money, but they do not represent a method of making money per se.

For example, one could suggest that blending AdSense ads with the content is a way to make money from a website. In reality it’s not; it’s just a way to make more money by improving your ad click-through rate. The real monetization method behind it is a PPC ad network.

The list is divided into direct and indirect methods, and examples and links are provided for each point. Enjoy!

Direct Methods

1. PPC Advertising Networks

Google AdSense is the most popular option under this category, but there are also others. Basically you need to sign up with the network and paste some code snippets on your website. The network will then serve contextual ads (either text or images) relevant to your website, and you will earn a certain amount of money for every click.

The profitability of PPC advertising depends on the general traffic levels of the website and, most importantly, on the click-through rate (CTR) and cost per click (CPC). The CTR depends on the design of the website. Ads placed abode the fold or blended with content, for instance, tend to get higher CTRs. The CPC, on the other hand, depends on the nice of the website. Mortgages, financial products and college education are examples of profitable niches (clicks worth a couple of dollars are not rare), while tech-related topics tend to receive a smaller CPC (sometimes as low as a couple of cents per click).

The source of the traffic can also affect the overall CTR rate. Organic traffic (the one that comes from search engines) tends to perform well because these visitors were already looking for something, and they tend to click on ads more often. Social media traffic, on the other hand, presents terribly low CTRs because these visitors are tech-savvy and they just ignore ads.

List of popular CPC advertising networks:

Clicksor

2. CPM Advertising Networks

CPM advertising networks behave pretty much as PPC networks, except that you get paid according to the number of impressions (i.e., page views) that the ads displayed on your site will generate. CPM stands for Cost per Mille, and it refers to the cost for 1,000 impressions.

A blog that generates 100,000 page views monthly displaying an advertising banner with a $1 CPM, therefore, will earn $100 monthly.

CPM rates vary with the network, the position of the ad and the format. The better the network, the higher the CPM rate (because they have access to more advertisers). The closer you put the ad to the top of the page, the higher the CPM. The bigger the format (in terms of pixels), the higher the CPM.

You can get as low as $0,10 and as high as $10 per 1,000 impressions (more in some special cases). CPM advertising tends to work well on websites with a high page views per visitor ratio (e.g., online forums, magazines and so on).

Burst Media

Right Media

3. Direct Banner Advertising

Selling your own advertising space is one of the most lucrative monetization methods. First and foremost because it enables you to cut out the middleman commissions and to determine your own rates. The most popular banner formats on the web are the 728×90 leaderboard, the 120×600 skyscraper, the 300×250 rectangle and the 125×125 button.

The downside of direct banner advertising is that you need to have a big audience to get qualified advertisers, and you will need to spend time managing the sales process, the banners and the payments.

4. Text Link Ads

After Google declared that sites selling text links without the nofollow tag would be penalized, this monetization method became less popular.

Many website owners are still using text links to monetize their sites, though, some using the nofollow tag and some not.

The advantage of this method is that it is not intrusive. One can sell text links directly through his website or use specialized networks like Text-Link-Ads and Text-Link-Brokers to automate the process.

LinkWorth

5. Affiliate Marketing

Affiliate marketing is a very popular practice on the Internet. Under this system you have a merchant that is willing to let other people (the affiliates) sell directly or indirectly its products and services, in exchange for a commission. Sometimes this type of advertising is also called CPA (cost per action) or CPL (cost per lead) based.

Affiliates can send potential customers to the merchant using several tools, from banners to text links and product reviews.

In order to find suitable affiliate programs you can turn to individual companies and publishers like Dreamhost and SEOBook, or join affiliate marketplaces and networks.

List of popular affiliate marketplaces and networks:

Link Share

6. Monetization Widgets

The latest trend on the web are widgets that let you monetize your website. Examples include Widgetbucks and SmartLinks. Some of these services operate under a PPC scheme, others behave like text link ads, others yet leverage affiliate links.

Their main differentiator, however, is the fact that they work as web widgets, making it easier for the user to plug and play the service on its website.

SmartLinks

7. Sponsored Reviews

PayPerPost pioneered this model, with much controversy on the beginning (related to the fact that they did not require disclosure on paid posts). Soon other companies followed, most notably Sponsored Reviews and ReviewMe, refining the process and expanding the paid blogging model.

Joining one of these sponsored reviews marketplaces will give you the opportunity to write sponsored posts on a wide range of topics. Not all bloggers are willing to get paid to write about a specific product or website (because it might compromise the editorial credibility), but the ones who do are making good money out of it.

If your blog has a big audience you could also offer sponsored reviews directly, cutting off the commissions of the middleman.

BlogVertise

Smorty

8. RSS Feed Ads

With the quick adoption of the RSS technology by millions of Internet users, website owners are starting to find ways to monetize this new content distribution channel.

Feedburber already has its own publisher network, and you can sign-up to start displaying CPM based advertising on your feed footer. Bidvertiser recently introduced a RSS feed ad option as well, with a PPC scheme.

Finally, some blogs are also opting to sell banners or sponsored messages on their feed directly. John Chow and Marketing Pilgrim are two examples.

Pheedo

9. Sponsors for Single Columns or Events

If you website has specific columns or events (e.g., a weekly podcast, an interview series, a monthly survey, a special project) you could find companies to sponsor them individually.

This method increases the monetization options for website owner, while giving advertisers the possibility to target a more specific audience and with a reduced commitment.

Mashable illustrates the case well. They have several advertising options on the site, including the possibility to sponsor specific columns and articles, including the “Daily Poll” and the “Web 2.0 Invites.”

Problogger also runs group writing projects occasionally, and before proceeding he publicly announce the project asking for sponsors.

10.Premium Content

Some websites and blogs give away part of their content for free, and charge for access to the premium content and exclusive tools.

SEOMoz is a good example. They have a very popular blog that gives advice and information on wide range of SEO related topics. On top of that visitors can decide to become premium members. It costs $48 monthly and it grants them access to guides, tools and other exclusive material.

11. Private Forums

While the Internet is populated with free forums, there is also the possibility to create a private one where members need to pay a single or recurring fee to join.

SEO Blackhat charges $100 monthly from its members, and they have thousands of them. Obviously in order to charge such a price for a forum membership you need to provide real value for the members (e.g., secret techniques, tools, and so on).

Performancing also launched a private forum recently, focused on the networking aspect. It is called The Hive, and the monthly cost is $10.

These are just two examples. There are many possibilities to create a private and profitable forum, you just need to find an appealing angle that will make it worth for the members.

12. Job Boards

All the popular blogs are trying to leverage job boards to make some extra income. Guy Kawasaki, ReadWriteWeb, Problogger… you name it.

Needless to say that in order to create an active and profitable job board you need first to have a blog focused on a specific niche, and a decent amount traffic.

The advantage of this method is that it is passive. Once you have the structure in place, the job listings will come naturally, and you can charge anywhere from $10 up to $100 for each.

13. Marketplaces

Sitepoint is the online marketplace by excellence. Some websites and blogs, however, are trying to replicate that model on a smaller scale.

Depending on your niche, a market place that allows your visitors to buy, sell and trade products could work well. Over the time you could start charging a small fee for new product listings.

The problem with this method is that there are no standard software on the web, so you would need to hire a coder to get a marketplace integrated into your website.

You can see an example of a marketplaces being used on EasyWordpress and on Mashable.

14. Paid Surveys and Polls

There are services that will pay you money to run a small survey or poll on your website. The most popular one is called Vizu Answers.

Basically you need to sign up with them, and select the kind of polls that you want to run your site. Most of these services operate under a CPM model.

15. Selling or Renting Internal Pages

Million Dollar Wiki made this concept popular, but it was being used on the web for a long time around (check Pagerank10.co.uk for instance).

These websites sell for a single fee or rent for a recurring fee internal pages on their domain. Usually they have either high Pagerak or high traffic, so that people purchasing a page will be able to benefit in some way.

Implementing this method on a small blog would be difficult, but the concept is interesting and could be explored further.

16. Highlighted Posts from Sponsors

Techmeme probably pioneered this idea, but somehow it has not spread to other websites. The tech news aggregator displays editorial posts on the left column, and on the sidebar they have a section titled “Techmeme Sponsor Posts.”

On that section posts from the blog of the advertisers get highlighted, sending qualified traffic their way. Considering that the monthly cost for one spot is $5000 and that they have around 6 sponsors at any given time, it must be working well.

17. Donations

Placing a “Donate” link or button on a website can be an efficient way to earn money, especially if your blog is on a niche where readers learn and gain value from your content.

Personal development and productivity blogs, for instance, tend to perform well with donation based systems (one good example being Steve Pavlina).

A small variation of this method appeared sometime ago with the Buy Me a Beer plugin. This WordPress plugin enables you to insert a customized message at the bottom of each article, asking the readers to chip in for a beer or coffee.

18. In-text Adverting

In-text adverting networks like Kontera and Vibrant Media will place sponsored links inside your text. These links come with a double underline to differentiate them from normal links, and once the user rolls the mouse over the link the advertising will pop. Should the user click on it the site owner will make some money.

Some people make good money with this method, but others refrain from using it due to its intrusiveness. It is also interesting to note that very few mainstream websites have experimented with in-text advertising.

19. Pop-ups and Pop-unders

Pop-ups are a common yet annoying form of advertising on the Internet. If you are just trying to make a much money as possible from your website, you could experiment with them.

If you are trying to grow the traffic and generate loyal visitors, however, you probably should stay away from them. Just consider the hundreds of pop-up blockers out there: there is a reason why they are so popular.

Ad networks that use pop-ups:

PayPopup

Adversal

20. Audio Ads

Also called PPP (Pay Per Play), this advertising method was introduce by Net Audio Ads. the concept is pretty simple: play a small audio advertising (usually 5 seconds) every time a visitor enters into your website. The user should not be able to stop it, creating a 100% conversion rate based on unique visitors.

The company is still rolling tests, but some users are reporting to get from a $4 to a $6 CPM. Regardless of the pay rate, though, this is a very intrusive form of advertising, so think twice before using it.

21. Selling the Website

Selling your website could be your last resource, but it has the potential to generate a big sum of money in a short period of time.

Market places on online forums like DigitalPoint and Sitepoint are always active with website buyers and sellers. Keep in mind that they most used parameter to determine the value of a website is the monthly revenue that it generates, multiplied by a certain number (the multiplier can be anything from 5 to 30, depending on the expectations of the seller, on the quality of the site, on the niche and other factors).

Some people also make money trading and flipping websites. They either create them from scratch or buy existing ones, and after some revamping they sell them for a profit.

Indirect Methods

22. Selling an Ebook

Perhaps one of the oldest money making strategies on the web, using a website to promote a related ebook is a very efficient way to generate revenue.

You could either structure the website around the book itself, like SEOBook.com, or launch the ebook based on the success of the website, like FreelanceSwitch did we the book How to be a Rockstar Freelancer.

23. Selling a Hardcover Book

Many authors and journalists leverage their blogs or websites to sell copies of hardcover books. Examples include Guy Kawasaki, Seth Godin and Malcolm Gladwell.

While most of these people were already renowned authors before they created their website, one could also follow the other way around. Lorelle VanFossen did exactly that with her Blogging Tips book. First she built her authority on the subject via her blog, and afterwards she published the book.

24. Selling Templates or WordPress Themes

As more and more people decide to get an online presence, website templates and WordPress themes become hotter and hotter.

On this segment you have mainstream websites like TemplateMonster, as well as individual designers who decide to promote and sell their work independently.

Brian Gardner and Unique Blog Designs are two examples of websites that make money with the sales of premium and custom WordPress themes.

25. Offering Consulting and Related Services

Depending on your niche, you could make money by offering consulting and related services. If you are also the author of your blog, the articles and information that you will share will build your profile and possibly certify your expertise on that niche, making it easier to gain customers.

Chris Garrett used a similar strategy. First he created a highly influential blog on the blogging and new media niche, and afterwards he started offering consulting services to clients with related problems and needs.

26. Creating an Email List or Newsletter

Email lists and newsletters represent one of the most powerful marketing and money making tools on the Internet. They offer incredible conversion rates, and the possibility to call people to action in a very efficient way.

Creating a big list is a difficult task though, so if you have a popular website you could leverage it to increase the number of subscribers on your list.

Yaro Starak is a famous Internet marketer, and if you visit his blog you will notice that right on top he has a section encouraging visitors to subscribe to his email newsletter. Yaro generates five figures in revenues each month from his email newsletters, proving that this method works.

Constant Contact

27. Mentoring programs

People are willing to pay for someone or something that will teach them and give them knowledge (as opposed to mere information). Education is one of the biggest industries in the world, and the online landscape behaves in a similar way.

Creating a mentoring program related to the niche of your website could be very profitable if you manage to structure and promote it adequately. There is a wide range of media and tools that you can use to deliver the information, from text articles to audio and video lessons.

Brian Clark leveraged the success of Copyblogger to launch a mentoring program teaching people how to build membership and how to sell content online. The program is titled Teaching Sells, and it costs $97 monthly. Sounds expensive, but they have over 1,000 members.

28. Creating a conference around the website

If your website takes off and becomes an authority on its niche, you could create a conference around it. Depending on the size of your audience, the event could attract thousands of people, and you could make money directly from conference passes and sponsors.

Search Engine Land, for instance, created a series of conferences that visit several cities on the United States and on other countries as well. The conferences are called Search Marketing Expo, and the tickets and passes cost thousands of dollars.
